Patiala: FIR against a Kabariwala for illegal collection, storage and disposal of biomedical waste

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) always remains vigilant on the instances related to industrial pollution and unscientific waste disposal for safeguarding the interest of the public. Quoting the statement PPCB Executive Engineer Rohit Singla said that a complaint was received telephonically by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) on 22.04.2023 regarding illegal collection, storage and disposal of biomedical waste by a kabariwala at New Jagdish Colony, Patiala.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, PPCB swung into action immediately and the site was visited by officer of the PPCB the same day. It was observed that a kabariwala namely Mahinder Kumar s/o Ramesh was collecting biomedical waste and storing it in shed at New Jagdish Colony, Patiala illegally, which he is disposing off in an unscientific manner. This activity not only violates the provisions of Law but can also be a cause of major health hazard to the public at large. The officer of the Board sealed the premises/shed of the kabariwala and an FIR has been lodged against him in the PS Kotwali Patiala. Further detailed investigation in the matter is being carried out by PPCB and strict action shall be taken against the culprits.
