Sikh Research Institute ‘Sikh-RI’ Releases the Research Project “Bani Sadhne ki Rag Bilaval” at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

High Time to Adopt Technological Development in Research on Religion: Prof. Prit Pal Singh

 

The research project “‘Bani Sadhne ki Rag Bilaval” by the Sikh Research Institute ‘Sikh-RI’ at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University was released. Prof. Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib while addressing the gathering said that sometimes religion and technology are considered as opposites of each other, but this is not the case. Technique is a way to do a task easily. This is the reason why the Guru Granth Sahib Project, a research project started by the Sikh Research Institute ‘Sikh-RI’, has been successfully reaching its goals for the past few years. He congratulated the project lead Mr. Harinder Singh and Content Lead Dr. Jaswant Singh.

Dr. Hardev Singh, Head, Department of Religious Studies welcomed the guests and Mr. Harpreet Singh, Incharge, Music Department presented melodious Kirtan of Bhagat Sadhnaji’s Shabad.

Dr. Jaswant Singh, the content lead of the project in his address said that no social class or occupation can become an obstacle in the spiritual path. A special example of this can be seen in Bhagat Sadhna ji. Though he was a ‘butcher’, yet when the Lord graced him, his life changed. The Bani recited by him was included in Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib complied by Sri Guru Arjan Sahib. Even Guru Gobind Singh Sahib included Bhagat Sadhna Ji’s Bani. He further said that the Guru Granth Sahib project team is carrying out a big project of considering the entire Bani of Guru Granth Sahib from various aspects such as literal meaning, emotional-creative meaning, grammar, etymology, interpretation, musical, historical, philosophical etc. . Bhagat Sadhnaji’s Bani has been released by this team today on its website: https://app.gurugranthsahib.io/home/panjabi/index. Any reader can benefit from reading the research work of this project on their mobile, laptop, computer etc.

Researching on the historical side of this project, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh said that while doing research on Bhagat Sadhna Ji’s Bani and his life, almost every work has been approached, in which any kind of information regarding Bhagat Sadhana Ji is found. He said that most of the time the reader reads only a few important works, most of the research works remain out of his reach. One of the beauty of this project is that almost all previous research works have been considered in it.

The Guest of honour Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, endorsed the views of the Vice-Chancellor and said that connecting the research done in the religious field with technology is the main need of today’s time and this need is fulfilled by this project. While the research of this project is available to the readers in the country and abroad through the medium of technology.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar also attended the event as the chief guest, he honoured Dr. Jaswant Singh, Mr. Bhagwant Singh, Dr. Rajinder Singh and Dr. Lakhwinder Singh.

At the end of the event Dr. Sikandar Singh, Head, Punjabi Department and Dean Students’ Welfare thanked everyone. On this occasion, the project team including Dr. Rajinder Singh, S. Amanpreet Singh, S. Jagtej Singh, S. Jaspal Singh, S. Inderpreet Singh and the head of the departments of History, Punjabi, English, the teachers, the researchers and the students of the university were present.
