27th Punjab Science Congress in DBU

The 27th Punjab Science Congress, themed “Science Biodiversity and Technology: Tools for Sustainable Development Goals,” is currently underway at Desh Bhagat University, co-organized by The Punjab Academy of Sciences. On the second day of the conference, a plenary session was held discussing future technology, along with technical sessions on various aspects of science. The discussions emphasized the evolving landscape of technology and the urgent need for sustainable practices in education, health, and environmental conservation.

During the keynote address, Professor Dr. Anil Verma, a prominent figure in the tech community, explored the realm of ChatGPT, highlighting its significance as a versatile tool for various tasks. He elaborated on its operation based on three key concepts: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning. Dr. Verma emphasized the subjective nature of intelligence, stressing its varying definitions among individuals. While efforts to investigate intelligence have been ongoing, Verma noted the lack of significantly effective results thus far, suggesting a continued need for comprehensive understanding rooted in knowledge, information, and data. He also addressed potential risks associated with ChatGPT, remarking that while numerous platforms may emerge, they cannot replace human ingenuity.

Dr. Mohinder Kaur Grewal, another speaker, focused on environmental concerns and the importance of green audits in higher education institutions. She cautioned against the perilous notion of relying on others to safeguard the planet, highlighting the unsustainable consumption of natural resources surpassing the Earth’s capacity to replenish them. Dr. Navjot Kaur also explained how biodiversity is effective for human health.

In the technical sessions, submissions covered various fields: Mathematical Science, Engineering, and Technology (44 oral presentations), Physical Sciences & Chemical Sciences (5 presentations), Biological, Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (44 presentations), and medical, Ayush, yoga, veterinary & pharmaceutical (32 oral presentations). Ten oral presentations were submitted for the Young Scientist Award. Winners of the posters displayed by delegates were also selected.
