Amarinder Singh launches projects worth 29.03 CR in Patiala

In a bid to provide ultra-modern housing facilities to the people, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday laid the foundation stones of development projects worth Rs. 29.03 crores, to be executed by Patiala Development Authority (PDA) under the fourth phase of urban estate at village Falauli.

The new urban estate, registered under Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) to be developed over an area of 76 acre adjacent to the Punjabi University, would be linked through a 60 ft wide road from Sadhu Bela road, under the land pooling scheme from land owners. According to the layout plan, 445 plots have been carved out, of which 348 are residential and 97 commercial. The PDA has already allotted development works worth Rs.23.34 crores and the entire project would be completed by April 30, 2020.

Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated ‘Atal Tinkering Laboratory’ (ATL) and an e-Library at the local Government Multipurpose Senior Secondary School at a cost of approximately Rs. 25 lakhs Out of this, Rs. 12 lakh would be provided by Niti Aayog and the remaining from local funding. The objective of ATL is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds, besides inculcating skills to develop designing mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. Under this unique programme, the students would learn the Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Drone Making, Do-it Yourself, Bio-Technology & Electronics. The Chief Minister, who interacted with the students, announced that students from class X, XI and XII will be given 900 electronic tablets by the government.

Apart from this, E-Library, the first of its kind in a Government school in the state, is also being established with 30 Tablets and 25 laptops, supported by high speed Wi-Fi, with the objective of developing and conducting tutorials, and providing seamless access to E-books & E-Content available online & offline. It would also act as gateway to digital and electronic information, with a single access point library, and besides collecting, organizing & collating print & digital information.

In a bid to effectively check the menace of stray dogs in the city, Captain Amarinder inaugurated a state-of-the-art modern Animal Birth Control Centre at a cost of Rs. 25 lakhs within the Government Veterinary Polyclinic, in line with the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001 as mandated by the Supreme Court.

The programme will be monitored by Animal Welfare Board of India, with a sterilisation target of minimum 400 dogs per month. A new state-of-the-art modern facility has been built, with 16 community dog kennels which can hold up to 85 dogs. Each kennel has its own water supply and drainage. A separate Quarantine kennel has been built to isolate infectious or rabies affected dogs. The operation theatre has been updated with all necessary equipment, three operating tables, an autoclave machine and ceiling LED OT lights.
