Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab celebrated at SGGSWU

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahibs three-day long celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniversary progressed towards its desired end on 23 November 2018 with the bhog of Sri Sehaj Path. The festivities and celebrations concluded on the similar note as they had begun. At the break of the day, “Prabhat Pheri” was organized to invoke the blessings of the first Guru of Sikhism and the procession recited hymns in the praise of the epitome of virtue, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The students of the Department of Music performed Kirtan by singing Hymns from Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. While listening to the couplets from the Gurbani, the students and the faculty had a sublime experience. After the Kirtan, the students and the faculty came together to perform Kavishree and recited hymns praising and remembering Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Sukhdarshan Singh Khehra congratulated every member of the University on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and motivated all the students and the faculty to imbibe and follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He also stated that Guru Nanak Dev ji is the World guru and with Gurus teachings, we can cleanse our inner impurities and can manage the relationships in the outer world. He expressed immense gratitude to S. Amarjeet Singh Sidhu, Member Trust and Dr. Rajinder Kaur Rohi, Former Head, Department of Religion for gracing the occasion. He also thanked everyone who contributed his or her services either directly or indirectly for the grand success of the mega event. A special Lecture was delivered by Dr. Rajinder Kaur Rohi to motivate the students to follow Sikh tenets particularly the teachings of Guru Nanak, which have become even more relevant in the modern times. At the end, the Registrar of the University, Dr Pritpal Singh expressed thanks to all the students and the faculty of the University for commemorating and paying tribute to Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Dr Pritpal Singh also added that the celebrations should not be limited to just three days but the festivities should continue all the year and the message with which these celebrations were started should reach the entire world. After the three-day long mega celebrations of Gurpurab, the staff and the students of the University savoured sumptuous Langar.
While taking festivities towards the conclusion, the students of the University performed “Nukar Natak” which was organised by the students of Department of Nanotechnology and Social Sciences. The “Natak” addressed the major issue of pollution and sensitized everybody against the detrimental effects of pollution. It is worth mentioning here that the celebrations on 21st November started with blood donation camp, Kisan Mela-Agrifest, book exhibition, and a seminar on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji. On 22nd November, plantation drive in the campus, poster-making, slogan-writing competitions, and declamation contest on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji were organised. The university authorities informed that the entire year will be dedicated to 550th Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev ji and various academic and cultural programs will be organised in the upcoming year.
