Navjot Singh Sidhu hands over appointment letters to 118 candidates

“The Local Government Department has set a target for making recruitments to 1100 posts to provide better citizen centric services to the urban population. Under this, the process regarding recruitment to 650 posts is going on where as the case pertaining to 456 posts is stayed by the hon’ble court concerning which the legal options would be explored to get the stay vacated. ” This was disclosed here today by the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu while handing over the appointment letters to the 118 candidates. The function was held at the auditorium of the Punjab Municipal Bhawan, Sector -35.On the occasion, Mr. Sidhu said that fulfilling the promise made by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh as per’Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ , the Local Government Department has speeded up the recruitment process. Of the 118 candidates given appointment letters today, 76 officers have been appointed on various posts on permanent basis in various Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, Punjab Water Supply& Sewerage Board. Apart from this, under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna 42 candidates have been appointed in StateUrban Development Authority (SUDA).Talking about recruitment of 76 candidates, the minister said that this is the first time in the tenure of the present government that candidates have been given appointment letters for recruitment on permanent basis. Exhorting the newly appointed candidates to discharge their duty with extreme dedication, the minister said that more than 40 percent of the population of the state lives in the cities which makes it his responsibility to provide transparent and better services to the urban population. He further said that in case any newly appointed officer faces any difficulty, he/she can personally approach him.Earlier, Mr. Sidhu started the function by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The Principal Secretary of the Local Government Department Mr. A. Venu Prasad welcomed Mr. Sidhu and the newly appointed candidates. He said that getting government job is a matter of pride for any person and he welcomesall the candidates on joining the department. He also divulged that it is a matter of double delight for the candidates to be given appointment letters by the cabinet minister Mr. NavjotSingh Sidhu.It is important to mention here that of the 76 candidates appointed today, 12 are Executive Officers (E.O.) , 29 Building Inspectors, 5 Sub Fire Officers, 3 Sanitary Inspectors, 11 Divisional Accountants, 5 Assistant Corporation Engineers, 4 Junior Draftsmen, 2 Legal Assistant, 5 Accountants Grade-1 officers. Of the 46 candidates appointed under SUDA, 8 have been appointed in State Cadre while 34 have been appointed in the urban cadre.The Director, Local Government Department Mr. Karnesh Sharma while thanking all present said that if any candidate encounters any problem regarding posting station then it would be resolved.On the occasion, the councillor from Amritsar Mr. Damanjit Singh thanked Mr.Navjot Singh Sidhu under whose guidance the department has recruited new candidates by speeding up the recruitment process which has come as a huge relief to the urban population.Among others present on the occasion included MLA Mr. Pargat Singh, CEO of PMIDC Mr. Ajoy Sharma, Special Secretary Mr. Mohinder Pal Singh, Advisor Mr. Angad Singh Sohi, Raji Mahajan, Chief Vigilance Officer Mr. Sudeep Manak, Chief Engineer Mr. Mukul Soni, Superintending Engineer Mr.Atul Sharma, and Manager PMIDC Mr. V.P. Singh.
