Punjab State Games 2017 begins at Polo Ground Patiala

The three-day Punjab State Games for men will kickstart at Polo Ground here on Thursday . The games being organised by the sports department would witness around 2,400 participants from across the state districts.
Director sports, Amrit Kaur Gill will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Briefing about the event, Punjab deputy director sports Surjit Singh Sandhu, said 200 officials have been deputed by the department for the smooth conduct of the games. “The aim to conduct these games is to encourage youth towards sports and uplift it in the state,’’ he said.
“The department has prepared a diet menu of ₹200 for all the participants and emphasis has been laid for proper diet plan to all players. A committee has also been formed to keep a tab on accommodation, diet and other facilities for the participants,’’ said, Kartar Singh, assistant director sports.
The department has also provided all the participants with sports kit including track suits.
The games which were earlier to be held at Bathinda but later decided to be held in Patiala will witness various competitions including athletics, basketball, badminton, boxing, football, hockey, gymnastics, table tennis, lawn tennis, and Kho Kho.
