Special Seminar at SGPC’s World University on “Importance and Prospects of Gurmat Sangeet”

A special seminar on “The importance and Prospects of Gurmat Sangeet was organized by the Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Religious Studies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib. This seminar dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was presided over by Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs. On this occasion, Dr. Billing said that Gurmat Sangeet is a very important part of Sikhism through which we connect with Sikh spirituality and Sikh philosophy. He said that Gurmat Sangeet is very important for empirical understanding of Gurbani.

Mr. Harpreet Singh, Incharge, Department of Music, who was the scholarly speaker of the seminar, presented his views on Gurmat Sangeet: Importance and Uniqueness; he highlighted the uniqueness of Gurmat Sangeet over the Indian classical music. He expressed his concerns that we are moving away from this great legacy bestowed by the Gurus.

Another scholarly speaker, Prof. Swarleen Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Music deliberated upon “Gurmat Sangeet: Meaningfulness and Possibilities”. She interacted with the students on the theoretical as well as practical aspects of Gurmat Sangeet. At the end of the seminar, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur thanked all the attendees and scholars.

Dr. Hardev Singh, Assistant Professor of the Department conducted the stage. Besides the staff and heads of various departments, a large number of students also participated in the seminar.
