SGPC rejects Bhagwant Maan’s infra offer for Gurbani telecast
Reacting to the statement given by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) regarding the the Gurbani Kirtan broadcast from Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the government should not interfere in the affairs of the Guru’s house. Advocate Dhami added that the work of the fields of government and religion are different and both have their own responsibilities.
He said that SGPC is an elected representative body of the Sikh Panth which is constantly working for the management of historical Gurdwara Sahibs as well as for the flourishing and propagation of the Sikh faith.
SGPC President said that there are some works that should only be done by the government.
“In the budget session of the SGPC and even prior to that, the government was repeatedly requested to beautify the roads leading to Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib and give them a Sikh heritage look on the pattern of beautification work done earlier on the Ghanta Ghar side (heritage street) in Amritsar. At the same time, we have appealed to the government several times to release the pending payments of the SC (scheduled caste) scholarships worth crores of rupees towards the SGPC’s educational institutions and to clear the issue of non-receipt of funds for the aided-staff deputed in SGPC institutions, but the
government has not acted on these issues”, said President Advocate Dhami. SGPC
SGPC President said that Punjab CM should pay attention to these long-pending issues of SGPC with the government and not engage in politics.
“Chief Minister talked about the broadcasting of Gurbani Kirtan but the SGPC has already constituted a seven-member committee in this regard and further action would be taken as per its report”, said Advocate Dhami.
SGPC President said that the services of the Guru’s houses are run by the offerings made by the Sangat (pilgrims + community) and the Sangat is capable of doing everything.
“Punjab CM should focus on the works to be done by the government instead of misleading the Sangat by playing politics in the name of religion”, said Advocate Dhami.
