FIVE DAY WORKSHOP ON PREPARATION OF TEACHING LEARNING MATERIAL CONCLUDES AT SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB WORLD UNIVERSITY

 

A five day capacity building programme on ‘Preparation of teaching leaning material’ was organized by Department of Education, SGGSWU, Fatehgarh Sahib from May 2, 2022 – May 6, 2022. Sharing the objectives of the workshop, Dr Harneet Billing, In charge, department of Education said that the purpose of the workshop was to orient the teacher trainees and develop context specific teaching-learning process which can be used to better transaction of teaching learning process. Teaching learning aids are essential to enable the understanding of complex and abstract concept, hence it is a skill every teacher needs to possess.

Welcoming the resource person, S Harpreet Singh Nazz on the first day session on ‘Basics of Painting: Use of Water and Pastel Colour ’, Dr Gagandeep Tiwana acquainted the students with the theme of the day and the achievements of the resource person. The resource person for the day gave hands on training to the participants about drawing of figures and different torso. He guided the students to use blocks while drawing figure for getting better proportions. He further gave a demonstration about use of water colors and mixing of colors for getting contrast and effects. His talk concluded with the need of having a clear perspective about the situation before making scenes. He urged the students to read the available literature and develop a deeper understanding of the context beforehand.

The second day of workshop was based on the theme ‘Basics of sketching and brush lettering.’ Ms Mandeep Kaur, co-cordinator of the workshop welcomed the resource person Ms Bindu Verma, Art teacher, O.P. Bansal school , Mandi Gobindgarah . She began her talk by showing the students some common mistakes committed by the students while sketching. She also shared with the students the effect of quality of sheet and colours used in the final art form. She demonstrated the use of brushes for shading and giving effect. She also gave training on writing alphabets using brushes and brush pen. The students prepared Flashcards for story telling under her guidance.

On the third day ,Ms Navjot Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, gave a hands on training on ‘Techniques of Clay Modelling’. Beginning her talk, she gave a demonstration about the technique of kneading the clay properly for using the same to make model. She divided the students into groups and taught them the art of making small model that can be used for preparing TLM. Students were taught the art of using live samples to make artifacts. She also shared tips to colour the model and use different colour tones to bring life to the model.

The last two day were dedicated to reflect on the learning of the session. The participants prepared teaching learning material and displayed the same in an exhibition. Visiting the exhibition Dr S.S. Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, discussed with the students the learning of the workshop. Dr Pritpal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University appreciated the efforts of the participants and congratulated the department for their efforts in training the students to develop skills needed to be a better teacher. He said that the purpose of the workshop can only be met, if the students continue their efforts while teaching in real classrooms in future.
