Three-day Gurmat Camp Concluded at SGGS World University
The three-day Gurmat camp dedicated to the first centenary of the Gurdwara Reform Movement today concluded at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Fatehgarh Sahib, in which two hundred students and staff from more than two dozen colleges from Punjab and Haryana participated. Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar Takht Shri Kesgarh Sahib during the valedictory ceremony of the camp, congratulated the organizers and officials for the full participation of the students in the camp. He inspired the students to become true disciples according to Gurmat. He said that the increasing trend of drug addiction, gang wars and emigration is a big challenge in Punjab, he asked the students to focus on spirituality, education and entrepreneurship. Due to the motivation of Singh Sahib, the students took the oath to get baptised (Amrit) according to the Sikh tenets.
Giving information about the three-day camp, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Prit Pal Singh said that during these three days, leading scholars of Sikh studies and reverend panthic personalities addressed the students, including Prof. Harpal Singh Pannu, Central University, Bathinda, Prof. Paramveer Singh, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof. Sarbjit Singh Renuka, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr. Gurtej Singh, Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, Akar, Manager, Dr. Paramjit Singh Saroa, Secretary, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Bhagwant Singh Dhangera and Bhai Ajmer Singh, Executive Head Registrar, Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, besides them Dr. Sikandar Singh, Dean Students’ Welfare and Dr. Hardev Singh, Department of Religious Studies of the University were present.
Dr. Pritpal Singh said that it is the primary duty of the University to spread the message of the Gurus to the entire world. He said that such Gurmat training camps will be organized by the University every year in which the participation of the students and the days of the camp will be increased. Encouraging the students of the Camp to lead an honest life, Avtar Singh Riya, Junior Vice President Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee appreciated the efforts of the University and asked to organise such camps on a larger scale.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs shared the information about the competitions organised during the camp, he told that the first place in speech competition was bagged by Paramjit Singh, Khalsa College Patiala, the second place was bagged by Gurbhjej Singh, Panth Ratan Panth Ratan Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute Bahadurgarh, the third place by Prabhjot Singh from Khalsa College Garhdiwal and special prize was received by Buta Singh, Sri Guru Granth Sahib University Fatehgarh. In the quiz competition (team), Gurmat College Patiala won the first place, Baba Ajay Singh Khalsa College, Gurdas Nangal won the second place, Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute won the third place and Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University team won the special prize. During the camp, the students visited the historical places of Fatehgarh Sahib – Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup Sahib, Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Sri Rath Sahib, Gurudwara Baba Moti Ram Mehra Ji and the historic mansion of Diwan Todar Mall.
During the camp review session, the students and staff of various colleges appreciated this initiative of the University and vowed to be a part of this camp series every year. At the end of the event, Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing thanked the teams, principals, scholars, and the special guests. He specially thanked the manager of Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib Bhagwant Singh Dhanghera for arranging accommodation and langar for the participants. Surinder Singh Kishanpura, the secretary of Central Sri Guru Singh Sabha and Head of various departments and staff members of the University were present.
