Steps being taken to export vegetables to international markets: Chetan Singh Jauramajra
With Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ‘s vision to strengthen farmers’ economic status, the Minister for Horticulture and Public Relations Department Punjab,Chetan Singh Jauramajra, held a convergence meeting of various stakeholders at the Civil Secretariat Chandigarh on April 22, 2023.
In this meeting, he discussed the various problems being faced in agriculture and irrigation practices and also talked about replacement of various crops which consume a lot of our water and other mineral resources.He said such valuable resources could be used in a much better way and for different other crops and vegetables which can give great business too and bring a considerable improvement in our economy .
The Cabinet Minister mentioned that when it comes to agriculture, Punjab is a very blessed land and instead of growing only Grains, various other Crops or Vegetables can also be grown . With value additions and processing, these alternative agriculture products can be more fruitful for us . In this regard Jauramajra discussed the possibilities of promoting green chilli cultivation in Punjab and standardizing its quality production, marketing and processing. “With the implementation of this cluster, farmers will get better value for their produce due to the quality production of chillies and in addition they will be able to sell their produce in distant markets due to globally competitive production.” he added.
The Minister informed that chilli is a major crop in Ferozepur ,Jallandhar Taran Taran Sangrur were in 21940 acre with production over 1.66LMT ie One lakh Sixty-six thousand Metric Ton . Chillies grown in clusters is MRL free and have no heavy metal presence, with adoption of good agricultural practices, such crops will be exported to the international market also.
Chetan Singh Jauramajra instructed the officials for educating and training the farmers for better production and encouraging them to shift over organic farming and minimising the use of pesticides in crop production. A proposal to open CA stores in various parts of Punjab was also given in this meeting.
Principal Secretary Horticulture Sumer Singh Gurjar assured the Minister to implement all of his farmer welfare initiatives and Director Horticulture Shailender Singh made valuable inputs towards achieving desired results.
