Mohamad Rafi Birth Anniversary Celebrated at Desh Bhagat Radio 107.8 FM
Desh Bhagat Radio 107.8 FM celebrated late Mohammad Rafi’s birthday in the studio. It was attended by Vimal Trikha, Founder of Chandigarh Bollywood Facilitation Cell, Jaspal Singh, Senior Assistant at Bhakhra Beas Management Board and fan of Mohammad Rafi and Ram Anand, textile engineer of NTC and lover of Rafi’s songs. First of all, station head and RJ Ms. Sangmitra and RJ Tejinder Kaur, of Desh Bhagat Radio, welcomed the guests. Ms. Sangmitra, RJ and station head of Desh Bhagat Radio said that every year Desh Bhagat Radio celebrates the birth anniversary of Rafi ji by sharing thoughts with those who love his songs. Throwing light on Rafi’s life, she said that Mohammad Rafi was born on 24 December 1924. He was an Indian playback singer and popular singer in the Hindi film industry. Rafi was known for his diverse range of songs, ranging from classical songs to patriotic songs, sad laments to romantic songs, ghazals, bhajans and qawwali. She said he was known for his unique ability to sing in a voice similar to that of a film actress. Between the 1950’s and 1970’s, Rafi was one of the most sought-after singers in the Hindi film industry. He received six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, he was awarded the Padma-Shri award by the Government of India.
RJ and station head of Desh Bhagat RadioMs Sangmitra said Mohammad Rafi was generally known for singing songs in Hindi, which he was very proficient at. He sang songs in several languages including Assamese, Konkani, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Magahi, Maithili and Urdu. Apart from Indian language, he also sang songs in English, Persian, Arabic, Haitian, and Dutch languages.
