Desh Bhagat University’s Agrim Club Shines Light on Girl Child Rights with Expert Talk

Mandi Gobindgarh, January 25 : Desh Bhagat University’s Agrim Club, a part of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, organized an enlightening expert talk on National Girl Child Day. The event took place in the seminar hall of Agriculture, featuring Prof Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal, Retd Principal Govt Girls College Ludhiana, as the esteemed resource person.

The initiative, aimed at raising awareness about the Rights of the Girl Child, prevention of female foeticide, elimination of gender-based bias, promotion of girl child education, combating child marriage, and highlighting various schemes for the girl child’s empowerment, garnered active participation and engagement from students and faculty alike.

 

Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Dr Zora Singh, underscored the significance of the event and emphasized the need to shed light on the crucial issues affecting the girl child. He remarked, “The motive of this activity is to raise awareness about the Rights of the Girl Child and to address pressing concerns such as female foeticide, gender bias, and the importance of education for the girl child.”

Dr Deepinderpal Singh extended a warm welcome to the resource person and participants, setting the tone for an insightful discussion. Prof Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal focused her talk on gender sensitization, emphasizing the importance of creating awareness about the rights of the girl child. The discussion also delved into eradicating gender-based bias and promoting education for the girl child.

 

The event featured student contributions in the form of poems, declamations, and poster displays, showcasing their commitment to the cause. Jagriti, a student, skillfully anchored the event, ensuring its smooth flow.

In her vote of thanks, Prof Dr H.K Sidhu, Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences, expressed gratitude to the university management, resource persons, and students for their active involvement. She encapsulated the essence of the event by stating, “By giving the girls wings to fly, they can reach

the sky.”
