UNFURLS NATIONAL FLAG DURING REPUBLIC DAY FUNCTION AT DBU CAMPUS

Mandi Gobindgarh, January 27: Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, led the commemoration of the significant role played by Punjabis in the national freedom struggle and the establishment of the modern Indian Republic. The Chancellor unfurled the national Tricolor during the Republic Day function, marking the 75th anniversary.
Addressing the gathering at the DBU Campus after the flag hoisting, Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh highlighted the pivotal role of Punjabi’s in achieving freedom and shaping the modern Indian Republic, emphasizing their contributions to preserving unity, integrity, and sovereignty through countless sacrifices.
Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Tajinder Kaur, emphasized the need to empower girls, encouraging them to excel in every field and create new success stories. She expressed pride in the fact that over 50% of jobs are secured by girls, making them active contributors to the socio-economic progress of the state & and nation.
Advisor to Chancellor, Dr. Virinder Singh, stressed the importance of naming universities after iconic figures like Desh Bhagat and Sardar Lal Singh Ji to perpetuate their glorious legacy. He lauded the courage of the university’s female students, expressing confidence in their ability to achieve any goal if given a chance. Massive efforts are being made to provide quality education to the students.
President Dr. Sandeep Singh highlighted Desh Bhagat University as a microcosm of the country, with students from every corner studying here. He expressed hope that the students would bring glory to the university in the future, urging them to decide their life and career paths.
During the celebration, the Chancellor inspected the parade and took the salute from an impressive march past by contingents of NCC’s navy, army, and air force, including girls and boys. Tributes were paid to martyr Bhagat Singh and freedom fighter Sardar Lal Singh Ji by garlanding their statues, followed by the distribution of sweets among the spectators.
Dr. Shalini Gupta, Former VC of DBU, Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-President, Registrar Dr. Col Pardeep Kumar, Media Director Dr. Surjeet Kaur Patheja, deans, and students were present on this occasion. The stage was conducted by Dr. Ajay Pal.
In conjunction with the Republic Day celebration, a Quiz Competition was organized by the Placebo Club, School of Pharmacy. Themed “India-Mother of Democracy” and “Visit Bharat,” the event aimed to motivate youth and raise awareness about the Constitution of India. Dr. Zora Singh inaugurated the competition, and certificates were awarded to the winners. Welcome address was given by Dr. Puja Gulati Principal, School of Pharmacy. Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Tajinder Kaur congratulated the staff, students, and members of the Placebo Club for the successful event. Vice Chancellor, Dr. Abhijit Joshi, acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the students, and Kirti, Assistant Professor, delivered a vote of thanks.
