Jharkhand: 3 arrested in Spanish woman’s gang rape sent to jail
The Jharkhand Police on Sunday said the three persons arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a Spanish tourist in Dumka district were sent to judicial custody by a court. The woman from Spain was allegedly gangraped on March 1 at Kurumahat in Hansdiha police station area, around 300 km from the state capital Ranchi, where she was spending the night in a tent along with her husband, the police said.
In her last social media video post on Saturday night, she said, “I thought they were going to kill me. Thank God I am still alive.”
Dumka police on Sunday evening officially announced the arrest of three culprits while raids to nab the remaining four were under way. While Jharkhand State Legal Services (JHALSA) took cognizance of the crime and pressed separate team for extending legal and other assistance to the survivor, the National Commission for Women (NCW) also took separate cognizance and sought a detailed report, expressing concern over law and order in Jharkhand.
