International Women’s Day Celebrated at Desh Bhagat University

International Women’s Day was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm at Desh Bhagat University, organized by the Women’s Grievances & Redressal Cell and Internal Complaints Committee in collaboration with the Youth Welfare Department.

 

The event, graced by the presence of Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, aimed to highlight the importance of women’s empowerment and self-dependence. Dr. Tajinder Kaur, in her address, emphasized the necessity of recognizing and supporting the struggles and passions of women. A woman is a multi-tasker. We must take lessons from their struggle.

 

Special guests from diverse backgrounds were invited to share their inspirational stories, shedding light on their remarkable journeys. Among them were Jaspreet Kaur, a writer and cancer survivor; Meena Sharma, an NGO owner, and her daughter Manpreet Sharma, who overcame multiple disabilities including cerebral palsy; Jaswinder Kaur, who despite being blind, secured a government job and supported her partially blind daughter Sandeep Kaur; and Charanjeet Kaur, an orthopedically handicapped social worker.

 

Meena Sharma shared her experience of running an NGO and spoke proudly of her daughter’s achievements despite her challenges. Jaswinder Kaur’s resilience in the face of adversity served as a beacon of hope. Sandeep Kaur says that although she lost her external vision, her mother made her capable by giving her internal vision. There are two paths in front of you, one positive and the other negative, it is up to you which one you choose. while Charanjeet Kaur’s message of perseverance resonated deeply with the audience.

 

The event featured performances by Dr. Renu Sharma, Maninder Kaur, and Surjit Kaur Bhatia, who presented a song, while Kulwinder Kaur, Dr. Rajdeep Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur, and Jyoti captivated the audience with their dance performances. Dr. Precious delivered the welcome address, with VC Dr. Abhijit Joshi and Advisor to Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh in attendance. Dr. Surjit Kaur Patheja extended the vote of thanks, with Dr. Jyoti Sharma and Dr. Kiran Rani successfully managing the stage.

 

In another event organized by the Interdepartmental Clubs Educere Clubs & ADR Center, an Essay Writing Competition on Women’s Day was held, with 20 participants from the Education Department and Law Department. Ms. Mansha was awarded first place, followed by Ms. Amanpreet Kaur in second place, and Ms. Yaishri in third place.
