Desh Bhagat University (DBU), located in Mandi Gobindgarh, was established under the Punjab Government’s Desh Bhagat University Act. The university is named after freedom fighter Sr. Lal Singh Ji, who was honored with the “Tamra Patra” by the Government of India in 1972 for his contributions to the freedom struggle.
DBU is a NAAC A+ Accredited University with a student strength of over 10,000 from across India and 20+ countries. The campus is digitally transformed to align with the outcomes of the New Education Policy. It is a multidisciplinary, student-centric, industry-driven, and research-focused institution offering programs at the diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels across various fields, including Engineering, Management, Hotel Management, Hospitality and Tourism, Computer Sciences, Ayurveda, Nursing, Education, Commerce, Airlines, Law, Agriculture Sciences, Languages, Social Sciences, Applied Sciences, Pharmacy, Dental Sciences, and Paramedical Sciences.
From this session, DBU is launching online and distance education programs. The university emphasizes industry-academia synergy, global outreach for innovation, social and community engagement, women empowerment programs, and significant collaborations. DBU boasts world-class infrastructure, state-of-the-art laboratories, well-furnished accommodations for faculty and students, a digitized central library, and a Project Monitoring and Evaluation Cell. The campus is also a zero-waste facility and includes a 300-bed hospital.
DBU has integrated several advanced educational tools and platforms, such as NPTEL, IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial, Virtual Labs, Internshala, INFLIBNET, Saylor’s Academy of the USA, and Coursera. These collaborations provide free online education, international certifications, and opportunities for students to study abroad through Pathway/Twinning Programs.
The university has a new campus, DBU Americas School of Medicine, offering an MD program equivalent to MBBS in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. DBU hosts international conferences, expert talks, HR conclaves, job fairs, faculty development programs, and youth festivals. It is a proud member of Eduskills Foundation and offers Global Academy Programs with CISCO Networking Academy, AWS Academy, Red Hat Academy, Palo Alto, Microchip, and Blue Prism University. Over 2,000 students have enrolled in certifications offered by CISCO and AWS Academy.
DBU has established a 24/7 Robotics & Automation Lab, several Centers of Excellence, and numerous industry collaborations. The recently established Electric Vehicle Center of Excellence and the IIC cell foster research, development, and entrepreneurship among students. DBU also has a Technology Business Incubator (DB Business Foundation) to support young entrepreneurs with seed funding and mentoring.
To bridge the gap between industry and academia, DBU has partnerships with leading companies like IBM, Amazon, MAX Hospital, IVY Hospital, Fortis, and Manipal. These collaborations ensure practical exposure for students and curriculum reviews by industry experts. DBU is affiliated with prominent industry bodies like PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Tie Chandigarh, National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), All India Management Association (AIMA), Ludhiana Management Association (LMA), and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
DBU’s NCC Wing includes Army, Air Force, and Navy units, and the NSS Wing is actively involved in community service. The Corporate Resource Centre (CRC) at DBU bridges the gap between industry and academia, providing students with opportunities for internships, on-the-job training, and placements in reputed companies like Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, ICICI Bank, Byjus, WhiteHatJr, Radisson, Crown Plaza, and Sonalika. Students have secured packages up to 51 LPA, with an average package of 4.5 LPA.
DBU’s hospital provides subsidized diagnostic services and free healthcare to residents of adjoining villages through medical camps. The university’s Center for Social Impact Strategy (CSIS) offers hands-on training to students. DBU offers Shakti Scholarship to support female students, and various scholarships for meritorious and economically disadvantaged students. The university has produced over 100 medalists at national and international levels.
DBU also has campuses in Muktsar, Mohali, and North America. The university believes in internationalization and offers foreign language programs through its HOLA India center and DBU Global devices for study abroad.
The DBU campus features the MJK City Centre, which includes food courts offering multi-cuisine options, a departmental store, gym, bakery, and restaurants serving both Indian and international food. DBU’s diverse student body participates in fashion shows, rock bands, cultural festivals, youth festivals, and various co-curricular activities, contributing to an amazing campus life.
DBU emphasizes practical-based learning with excellent faculty, most of whom are doctorates. The university supports students in filing patents and has established the DBU Publication Bureau to promote academic research and publishing.
