DBU Unnat Bharat/Swachh Bharat Cell organised “EK PED MAA KE NAAM”

Mandi Gobindgarh, 20 August: The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” event, organized by the Unnat Bharat/Swachh Bharat Cell in association with the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Desh Bhagat University was a resounding success, held across five villages: Jalalpur, Salani, Khumana, Khaniyan and Sounti. This initiative aimed to honor mothers by planting trees as a tribute, fostering a deeper connection with nature while promoting environmental conservation. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local villagers, students, faculty members and volunteers who in each village, the planting ceremonies were marked by heartfelt speeches, in which Participants expressed their gratitude towards their mothers and emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship. The villagers, especially women, were deeply moved by the concept of the event, which resonated with the cultural values of respect and reverence for mothers.

 

Dr. Sachin Bhardwaj, the Nodal Officer of Unnat Bharat/Swachh Bharat and a member of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, DBU played a pivotal role in the planning and execution of the event. His leadership, along with the dedicated efforts of Mr. Ravindra Singh, also from the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, ensured the smooth coordination and success of the campaign. Both coordinators were instrumental in guiding the participants, selecting appropriate tree species and overseeing the plantation process to ensure the long-term sustainability of the saplings.

 

As there is no elected sarpanch in the village currently, the campaign was carried out under the guidance of former sarpanches/ex-sarpanches and coordinators appointed by them.

 

Mobilizing the community and ensuring that the event was both well-organized and impactful. The presence of local leaders and dignitaries further elevated the event, as they actively participated in the tree-planting activities and encouraged the community to continue caring for the environment. The success of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” was evident in the smiles of the participants and the flourishing saplings that now stand as living tributes to the mothers they honor.

 

Dr. HK Sidhu, Director of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences unwavering support and invaluable guidance throughout the event. The campaign was supervised by ex-Sarpanch Salani Ragwinder Singh, ex-Sarpanch Sounti Jagjit Singh, ex-Sarpanch Jalalpur Parvinder Singh and ex-Sarpanch Khumana Gurdev Singh, ex-Sarpanch Khaniyan, Jaswant Singh, whose leadership ensured the smooth execution of the event. Local villagers, including farmers and volunteers participated actively, showing their commitment to both environmental sustainability and the cultural significance of the event. The campaign focused on enhancing the green cover of the village by selecting strategic locations for planting. Trees were planted near the village pond, on common lands, and along public roads and school roads.
