Patiala Police crackdown on China dor users and sellers
A public notice requesting the general public not to use banned chinesedor/manjha/nylon/synthetic threads for kite flying and help the Govt. in this noble cause and to inform the Punjab Pollution Control Board on its toll free number 1800-180-2810 (from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM) if any person is found selling/storing/supplying/importing/using china dor, was issued by the Board in the leading newspapers on 05.01.2025.
In response to the public notice, a press reporter called Chairman, Prof. (Dr) Adarsh Pal Vig, in the morning of 06.01.2025, Monday. He informed to Chairman that he knows the locations of the shops in Patiala City where china dor is kept and is being sold.
The telephone number of the reporter was passed to EE RO Patiala and thereafter the team of RO Patiala comprising Er. Mohit Singla AEE (SDO), Er. Dharmavir Singh AEE (SDO) and Er Vinod Singla JEE went from shop to shop in the areas i.e. Achaar bazaar, Tripuri, Anand Nagar but no person was caught red handed selling China Dor.
Thereafter in the late evening the reporter called team RO Patiala that a kite shop in Deep Nagar is selling China Dor. The team immediately visited the shop / area along the press reporter. In Deep Nagar and one shop namely M/s Sonu kites was found selling china dor and initially 3 gattus(roll of china dor) were confiscated. The reporter then informed that one 17 year old boy living in deep nagar is also involved in selling of china dor and team of RO Patiala then checked the boy’s house and confiscated 12 gattus.
On back trailing, the boy informed that he purchased gattu from Sonu kites and also informed that there are many gattus kept in the house of the owner of Sonu kites.
Thereafter, the team visited the house of Sonu in Deep Nagar and found the gate of his house locked. Thereafter, SHO Tripuri was contacted for further assistance in the matter. Simultaneously, Environmental Engineer, Regional Office, Patiala along with Environmental Engineer-1/1 & 1/2, Zonal Office-1, Patiala also reached the site at around 9 pm and search of the house was carried out along with police team.
On checking, around 330 gattus approximately 1 Ton of china dor were found from the house of Sonu Kumar and they were confiscated. Mr. Sonu Kumar, owner of Sonu kites was taken into custody of police and the investigation is on for further back tracking of the source of supplier of china dor and agents involved in trading/selling/use of China Dor.
Chairman and Member Secretary of the PPCB again appealed to the public to help/inform such culprits immediately so that we can take action as per law and stop such illegal killer activities in the State of Punjab.
