On 09.01.2025, Customs officials at IGI Airport, New Delhi, intercepted a 47-year-old Indian passenger arriving on Air India flight AI-992 from Jeddah. The passenger was flagged for inspection based on profiling during the green channel exit.
Seizure Details:
•Items: 12 yellow metal rods (suspected gold, 419 grams) with value Rs 32.96 lakhs approx
•Concealment: Inside trolley bag wheels
•Detection: Found during X-ray scan; no beep on DFMD.
Action Taken
1.Passenger detained for questioning; statements recorded under Section 108 of the Customs Act.
2.Suspected gold seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act.
3.Items to be sent for purity testing.
