Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh Meets Governor of Punjab at Drug Awareness Event

Dialogue on Drug Awareness with Educationists

 

Mandi Gobindgarh, 10 January: A pivotal dialogue on raising awareness against the drug menace was held at the Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh organized by the Joshi Foundation as part of its ”Solution Through Dialogue” initiative. The event was chaired by Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab, and saw the participation of prominent educationists, including Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University.

“Solution Through Dialogue” aims to create a comprehensive repository of actionable and effective ideas to combat Punjab’s drug crisis.

In his keynote address, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria emphasized the critical role of education in the fight against drugs, urging educators to become catalysts for change by promoting awareness and preventive education. “The youth of Punjab are our most valuable asset and it is imperative that we protect them from the dangers of drug addiction. Education is a powerful tool in this battle, and by working together, we can create a drug-free society,” he said.

The Governor called for systematic measures to address the issue, suggesting that teacher counseling programs should be initiated at the district, tehsil and block levels. He encouraged all stakeholders to remain resolute despite challenges, expressing confidence that persistent efforts would yield results. He also called for a compassionate and comprehensive approach, focusing on awareness, education, and community engagement.

The dialogue also featured key contributions from notable personalities.

Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, contributed to the dialogue by sharing insights on the initiatives undertaken by his institution to combat drug abuse. He highlighted the importance of incorporating drug awareness into the academic curriculum and creating supportive environments for students.

On this occasion, Dr. Zora Singh extended an invitation to Shri Gulab Chand Kataria to attend the upcoming annual convocation function at Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobingarh.

On this ocassion Sh Vineet Joshi, Founder of the Joshi Foundation, introduced participants from various Universities, schools and colleges and shared practical remedies to combat drug abuse. Sh. Vijay Sampla, Former Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, highlighted the importance of utilizing drug rehabilitation centers effectively. Sh Harjeet Singh Grewal, Founder-Director of Grewal Foundation, extended his full support for this noble cause. Avinash Rai Khanna, Former Member of Rajya Sabha and Director of Khanna Foundation, stressed the need for collective efforts to eradicate this menace, especially by running awareness programs at the senior secondary school level to educate young students about the ill effects of drugs. Other participant were Mr Anshu Kataria, Mr Mohit Mahajan, Mr Ashwani Garg (SWIET) and Dr Parul from LPU in the function.

The event concluded with a shared commitment to implementing the strategies discussed and reinforcing partnerships between educational institutions and government bodies.
