DBU Organized Legal Aid Awareness Camp on Fundamental Rights and Duties of Citizens
Mandi Gobindgarh, February 23: Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, organized a successful “Legal Aid Awareness Camp on Fundamental Rights and Duties of Citizens under the Constitution of India” at Rajgarh village, District Ludhiana. The event was a collaborative effort between the ADR Centre, Legal Aid Cell, Pro Bono Legal Service Club, University School of Law, and the Women Grievance Redressal Cell.
The camp aimed to educate participants about their fundamental rights and duties as citizens of India, emphasizing the importance of responsible citizenship. Law students from various semesters explained the 11 fundamental duties mentioned in Article 51A of the Constitution of India. Pamphlets, booklets, and legal aid helpline details were distributed among attendees.
Dr. Arti, Ms. Manpreet Kaur, and Ms. Swati Sharma, faculty members of the Legal Studies department, highlighted the significance of fundamental duties. The University School of Law provided free legal consultations to participants.
Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh appreciated the efforts of the students and organizers, stating, “Legal aid awareness camps on fundamental duties of citizens under the Indian Constitution are crucial aspects of a democratic society. Equally important as our rights are our fundamental duties, which serve as a moral and civic responsibility towards the nation.”
Dr Tajinder kaur Pro-Chancellor added, “This initiative aims at spreading legal awareness regarding the Fundamental Rights and Duties of Citizens. A strong democracy is built on the foundation of an informed and aware citizenry, and knowledge of our fundamental rights and duties is the key to ensuring justice, equality, and freedom for all.”
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arti, expressing gratitude to the Sarpanch of Rajgarh village, students, and organizers for their valuable contributions. The camp successfully sensitized participants about their constitutional duties and the role they play in nation-building.
