– Constituency teams pledge to make their areas drug-free

Patiala, May 12:

Deputy Mayor of Patiala and Malwa East Zone Coordinator of the Anti-Drug Front, Jagdeep Singh Jagga, chaired a meeting today with constituency in-charges and coordinators of Patiala district. He reiterated that the ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ campaign, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, will be expanded to every household to ensure the complete eradication of drugs from Punjab.

The meeting was attended by Gurwinder Happy, in-charge of the urban constituency, and Yadavinder Goldy, in-charge of the rural constituency, along with their respective teams. Addressing the gathering, Jagga stated that the Aam Aadmi Party’s primary goal is to turn the anti-drug initiative into a people-powered movement, and encouraging results are already visible on the ground.

He instructed the in-charges and coordinators to intensify awareness efforts, encourage affected individuals to seek de-addiction treatment, and report drug trafficking to law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that the Punjab Government has established robust de-addiction facilities, and the current focus must be on motivating drug users to take the first step toward recovery. This, he said, would be achieved through a committed door-to-door campaign led by grassroots volunteers.

Highlighting the need to dismantle the supply chain, Jagga urged constituency teams to work closely with the police and report any drug-related activity in their areas. He also called for close coordination with local MLAs to maximize public engagement. “Every Punjabi wants a drug-free state—our job is to turn that hope into action,” he said.

In the morning session, Gurwinder Happy and coordinators from Patiala Urban, Sanaur, Samana, and Shutrana constituencies pledged to eliminate drugs from their areas and ensure door-to-door outreach. In the evening, Yadavinder Goldy and coordinators from Patiala Rural, Rajpura, Ghnaur, and Nabha constituencies made a similar commitment.

Jagga further announced that he will soon hold meetings across all five districts under his jurisdiction—Patiala, Anandpur Sahib, Mohali, Sangrur, and Malerkotla—to ensure grassroots success of the campaign.

Also present at the meeting were Bhupinder Singh Kalarmajri (Nabha), Harpal Singh (Patiala Rural), Rajesh (Rajpura), Swinder Singh (Ghnaur), Gurwinder Singh Mihon (Sanaur), Davinderpal Singh Micky (Patiala), Kuldeep Singh Virk (Samana), and Ranjit Singh Virk (Shutrana).
