Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian on Friday said that the number of active relief camps has come down to 35 within the last 24 hours while inmates have reduced significantly to 894.

 

He said that families are steadily returning to their homes and the situation is improving across the flood-hit regions.

 

The Cabinet Minister informed that a total of 23,340 persons have been evacuated so far and most districts are witnessing visible progress towards normal life. He added that the number of villages affected has gone up from 2490 to 2539, while the overall population impacted has also seen a very slight increase from 3,89,373 to 3,89,387 during this period.

 

Sharing further details, S. Mundian said that inmates in relief camps of Fazilka saw a major reduction with 245 inmates while Pathankot recorded a sharp decline from 28 to just 6. He asserted that such numbers underline the effectiveness of ongoing rehabilitation measures.

 

The Revenue Minister also informed that crop area affected has risen from 1,99,678 hectares to 1,99,766 hectares due to fresh reports mainly from Mansa, but he maintained that overall impact remains stable with no major change across other districts.
