DBU Organises Legal Aid Awareness Camp to Mark ‘Nasha Mukti Abhiyan’ and Human Rights Day

Mandi Gobindgarh,9 December: A Legal Aid Awareness Camp on “Nasha Mukti Abhiyan & Celebration of Human Rights Day” was organized by the ADR Centre, Legal Aid Cell and Pro Bono Legal Service Club of the University School of Law, in collaboration with the Women Grievance Redressal Cell and NSS Unit of Desh Bhagat University at Village Sohag Heri, District Fatehgarh Sahib.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from 70 law students across various programmes including LLB (1st, 3rd, 5th Semesters) and BALLB (Hons.) (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th Semesters). The camp aimed to spread awareness on the dangers of drug addiction and educate the rural community on fundamental human rights, legal remedies, and access to justice.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Anu Mutneja, followed by inputs from faculty members Dr. Arti, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur Ghuman, Ms. Manpreet Kaur and Mr. Sushan Bali, who highlighted the importance of Human Rights Day. An awareness lecture on drug de-addiction informed villagers about the physical, psychological, and social impacts of substance abuse.
A detailed legal literacy session was conducted, covering constitutional rights, Article 39A, the functioning of Legal Services Authorities, and protections for women, children, and senior citizens. An interactive segment allowed villagers to seek guidance on issues such as land disputes, domestic violence, and access to government welfare schemes.
Pamphlets on drug prevention and legal rights were distributed, and a pledge ceremony was held to promote a drug-free lifestyle and respect for human rights. Village Sarpanch Mr. Gursewak Singh appreciated the initiative, noting its positive impact on community awareness and youth engagement.
Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur commended the effort, emphasizing that such outreach programmes strengthen the connection between legal institutions and rural communities, advancing the mission of ensuring access to justice for all.
