A Holiday Paring of Baking Traditions
Mandi Gobindgarh, December 13: Desh Bhagat University successfully conducted a lively and interactive Cake Mixing Ceremony at Vyanjan Restaurant of DBU. The School of Hotel Management and Tourism hosted this event with the aim of acquainting students with the traditional art of preparing festive cakes while developing their skills in ingredient selection, mixing techniques and learning about the cultural significance of pre-Christmas culinary traditions.
It was further graced by the benign presence of Chancellor Dr Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr Tajinder Kaur whose encouraging words instilled warmth into the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Zora Singh said that culinary creativity and seasonal traditions are equally important. “Festive culinary practices not only strengthen cultural bonds but also enrich students’ practical learning. Such activities prepare them for global hospitality environments.”
Dr. Tajinder Kaur in her address stressed the importance of living experiences and appreciation of culinary art. She said, “Events related to skill-based activities, like the cake mixing ceremony, help students develop artistry, discipline and understanding of the concept of cuisine on festivals. Students should be motivated to explore their curiosity with enthusiasm.
The program was well-organized by Ms. Srishti under whose leadership the whole ceremony went smoothly and joyously. She was efficiently assisted by Dr Rupinder Kaur, Mr Gurkiran Singh Mann and Ms Nivedita, whose teamwork was instrumental in making it both an entertaining and enriching experience for all.
The ceremony was an excellent platform to enhance hands-on exposure for the students in the bakery and confectionery area, hence helping them gain relevant industry skills, said Director Dr Aman Sharma.
