Desh Bhagat University Celebrates Lohri with great enthusiasm and Cultural Fervor

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Graces the Event as Chief Guest

 

Mandi Gobindgarh, January 12: Desh Bhagat University celebrated the festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm at its university campus. The vibrant event reflected rich cultural heritage, community bonding, and traditional Punjabi festivities.

The celebration commenced with the lighting of the traditional bonfire, symbolizing gratitude to nature and prayers for prosperity. H.E. Ms. Pradeepa Mahishini Colonne, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Mr. Baltej Pannu, General Secretary, Aam Aadmi Party, attended as Guest of Honour. Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor; Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor and Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor were present as special guests.

The event featured colorful cultural performances, including traditional Punjabi dances such as Bhangra and Gidda, along with melodious folk songs. Students actively participated in activities, adding to the festive spirit.

Addressing the gathering, H.E. Ms. Pradeepa Mahishini Colonne, expressed her delight at being part of the Lohri celebrations at Desh Bhagat University. She appreciated the Desh Bhagat University and vibrant display of Punjabi culture and highlighted the shared cultural values of India and Sri Lanka that promote harmony, gratitude, and togetherness.

Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, shared that festivals like Lohri strengthen community bonds and instill a sense of gratitude and unity.

Dr. Amarjit Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, extended heartfelt thanks to all guests, participants, and volunteers, emphasizing that such celebrations strengthen community ties and preserve cultural heritage for future generations.
