CHANDIGARH, 14th February 2026:
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday said that the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign has achieved another major breakthrough, as Gurkirat Singh, a resident of Kalanaur in Gurdaspur district, was allegedly caught consuming drugs inside a cremation ground. He said that the accused has direct links with the Congress party and photographs of the arrested individual with several senior Congress leaders have also surfaced.
In a video message, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Punjab knows very well that when the state was ruled by the Akali Dal-BJP or the Congress party, Punjab was flooded with drugs. Today, many such people are continuously being arrested who have direct or indirect links with Congress, Akali Dal and BJP. These parties, which ruined Punjab, are now rattled and crying foul.”
Highlighting the resolve of the present dispensation, Harpal Singh Cheema stated, “The continuous war being waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government against drugs is yielding strong results. Drug smugglers are either fleeing Punjab or ending up inside jails. Whoever is caught consuming drugs, the government is ensuring treatment and helping them recover.”
He further said, “The people of Punjab are giving overwhelming support to this war, and today it has become a mass movement in Punjab. Lakhs of people are connected with the Punjab Government and the Aam Aadmi Party because the Bhagwant Mann government is fully committed to completely eliminating drugs from Punjab.”
