Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government , accusing it of systematically subverting democracy and misusing constitutional institutions to crush opposition parties across the country. He said 30 million Punjabis would give a befitting reply to the BJP for targeting Punjab and announced that AAP workers would surround BJP offices to expose its politics of vendetta and intimidation.

Addressing reporters, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that democracy, established thanks to the sacrifices of freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru , Sukhdev, and Lala Lajpat Rai, is today under serious threat from the BJP. Punjabis made the greatest sacrifices for the country’s independence and the establishment of democracy, but now, due to the BJP’s authoritarian politics, the Constitution drafted by Baba Sahib Dr. BR Ambedkar is in danger.

Questioning the role of central agencies, he said that whenever elections are due in states ruled by opposition parties , the BJP first sends agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax Department , and also uses the Election Commission to create an atmosphere of fear and terror. These agencies are never sent to BJP-ruled states because the BJP’s sole objective is to destabilize opposition governments and suppress dissenting voices.

Targeting the BJP over the recent ED action in Punjab, the minister further said that immediately after the West Bengal elections, the ED turned its attention to Punjab. The BJP is attempting to replicate the same model of intimidation and political manipulation in Punjab. The ED first targeted businessman and Member of Parliament Ashok Mittal and pressured him to join the BJP. Soon after, the ED arrived at the home of Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora. Sanjeev Arora flatly refused to join the BJP , and what followed was witnessed by the entire country : a day-long raid and subsequent arrests.

Explaining the BJP’s modus operandi, he revealed that its model is simple. Those who are intimidated join the BJP , and those who refuse are jailed. The BJP is deliberately creating an atmosphere of fear in opposition-ruled states to either force leaders to submit or trap them through central agencies. During the West Bengal elections, the BJP deleted 9 million voters from the electoral rolls to seize power. The BJP is now dreaming of repeating such tactics in Punjab , but Punjabis will never bow to such politics.

Citing Punjab’s revolutionary heritage, the Finance Minister said that Punjabis have the blood of revolutionaries and martyrs flowing in their veins. The spirit of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and the martyrs who sacrificed everything for the country’s freedom resides within every Punjabi. If the BJP continues such actions in Punjab, 30 million Punjabis will give a befitting reply.

He strongly condemned the ED action against Sanjeev Arora and announced that AAP workers and volunteers will protest outside BJP headquarters and offices across Punjab on Sunday.

Announcing state-wide protests, the AAP leader said AAP workers will surround BJP offices across the state to expose how the BJP is posing a threat to democracy and the Constitution by misusing central agencies for political vendetta.
