Patiala District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has informed that as per the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, as per the orders to conduct Special Intensive Revision of Voter Lists in the state of Punjab, BLOs will go door to door in Patiala district from June 25, 2026 to July 24, 2026 to fill the forms of voters under Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The Deputy Commissioner said here today that as per the instructions received from the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Mrs. Anindita Mitra, the Special Intensive Revision of Voter Lists in Patiala district will be carried out in a completely transparent manner. He said that for this work, a complete election staff including 1786 BLOs, 185 Supervisors, 8 EROs and 16 AEROs has been deployed in the district.
Dr. Himanshu Agarwal said that each BLO has been given an average of 300 houses and 1200 voters for SIR. He said that as per the instructions of the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, all the preparations for conducting SIR in the district have been completed.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the work related to training BLOs and other preparations regarding SIR will be done from June 15, 2026 to June 24, 2026. He said that our aim is to include every eligible citizen in the voter list and exclude the ineligible persons from the list.
The District Election Officer said that double voting is a crime as per the Indian Constitution, punishable with imprisonment up to one year. He said that all the voters of the district will have to fill the form under SIR. He said that under the pre-SIR mapping, there are 15 lakh 21 thousand 133 voters in Patiala, out of which 12 lakh 39790 have been mapped, which is 81.50 percent of the total voters. He said that the eligibility date for the special intensive revision of the voter lists has been fixed as January 1, 2003.
Dr. Himanshu Agarwal, while giving more information about SIR, said that the work of rationalization of polling stations will be done by 24-07-2026 and the draft voter list will be published on 31-07-2026. Objections and claims regarding voter lists can be submitted from 31-07-2026 to 30-08-2026. The disposal of objections and claims will go from 31-07-2026 to 28-09-2026. He said that the publication of the final voter list will be done on 01-10-2026.
The District Election Officer appealed to all the voters of the district to fully cooperate with the BLOs in the Special Intensive Revision of the Voter Lists being conducted by the Election Commission of India. He also informed that for the convenience of the voters, the existing voter lists have been linked with the voter lists of the eligibility date of January 1, 2003, due to which the voters will not face any difficulty in finding the old voter lists.
Dr. Himanshu Agarwal said that BLOs will go door to door to fill the forms related to Special Intensive Revision of Voter Lists and will contact the voters thrice to retrieve the forms. He said that during SIR, Aadhaar card has been recognized only as a source of identity and not as a proof of identity.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all the political parties of the state of Punjab to appoint their block level agents so that this work can be completed smoothly. He said that the office of the District Election Officer, Patiala will involve the political parties at every stage of the Special Intensive Revision.
