Punjab News: Punjab’s Son Shines in Uzbekistan
Amritpal Singh of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Wins Silver Medal at Central South Asia Rugby Sevens Championship–2026
 Amritpal Singh, a student of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, has won the Silver Medal in the Central South Asia Rugby Sevens Championship–2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Representing the Indian team, he delivered an outstanding performance and brought great pride to the university, Punjab, and India at the international level.
Amritpal Singh has been consistently performing well in rugby. He has previously participated in several All India Inter-University Rugby competitions and has also made a distinct mark in the Senior National Rugby Championship and National Games.
The university expressed immense joy and pride on this remarkable achievement. Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University; Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Registrar; Dr. Sikandar Singh, Dean Student Welfare; Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal; Dr. Harneet Billing; Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar, Head of Department; Jaspreet Kaur, PRO; and Neeraj Kumar, Rugby Secretary, Fatehgarh Sahib, congratulated Amritpal Singh and his coach Sandeep Kumar, and wished them continued success and greater achievements in the future.
It is worth mentioning that the University’s athlete Amandeep Kaur has also performed exceptionally well in the Asian Rugby Sevens Series in China and Sri Lanka. She has been selected for the Chennai Bulls team in the Rugby Premier League (RPL). She is expected to deliver outstanding performances in future international tournaments as well.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, while addressing the occasion, said that University students: Amritpal Singh and Amandeep Kaur are the first Punjabis who have made their mark at the international level.
