Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Organises Intensive One-Day Skill Enhancement Workshop on “Molecular Biology, Microbiological and Computational Techniques”

The Department of Biotechnology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib under the aegis of the Centre for Scientific and Research Innovation (Institution Innovation Cell), successfully organised an intensive one-day Skill Enhancement Workshop on “Molecular Biology, Microbiological and Computational Techniques”.

The workshop aimed to provide participants with hands-on training and theoretical understanding of contemporary techniques widely used in biological research. Around 56 students and 10 faculty members from Doaba Group of Colleges, Mata Gujri College, Government P.G. College and D.A.V. College actively participated in the workshop, making the sessions highly interactive and enriching.

The technical sessions were conducted by expert resource persons from the Department of Biotechnology. Dr. Rupinder Kaur conducted sessions on DNA extraction and PCR amplification, Dr. Puneet Kaur demonstrated Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, while Dr. Simran Jot Kaur and Ms. Kudratdeep Kaur delivered theoretical and practical sessions on microbiological techniques. Dr. Falak Thakral introduced participants to bioinformatics and computational techniques. The workshop offered a balanced integration of theoretical concepts and practical applications, enabling students to develop both conceptual understanding and technical competence.

Under the guidance of Convener Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, and Coordinator Dr. Simran Jot Kaur, the workshop emerged as a significant academic initiative. The Department also expressed its commitment to organising more such programmes in the future to strengthen the connection between academia and industry.

Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the University, appreciated the workshop for its comprehensive blend of theoretical learning and practical exposure. He highlighted the importance of resource-sharing and noted that students from participating colleges benefitted greatly from access to the University’s advanced technological infrastructure. For many participants, the workshop offered a valuable opportunity to work with sophisticated equipment that is often unavailable in their own institutions, thereby bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry-oriented practice.

Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, congratulated the Department for organising such skill-oriented initiatives that enhance students’ capabilities, improve employability, and encourage meaningful contributions to society. Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Chairman of CSRI and Registrar of the University, also appreciated the efforts of the Department in promoting innovation and practical learning among students.
