Patiala News: District Election Officer Reviews Mapping of Electoral Rolls for Special Intensive Revision
– BLOs and other staff directed to increase mapping and reduce anomalies: Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal
– Says electoral roll updation is not an additional duty but an integral part of regular official responsibilities
Patiala Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, reviewed the ongoing mapping of the current electoral rolls with the electoral rolls of the year 2003, being undertaken prior to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as per the directions of the Election Commission of India.
He informed that 84 percent of the mapping work has been completed in the district so far. To expedite the remaining work, special camps will be organized at all polling booths across the district on June 7 (Sunday).
While chairing a meeting attended by ADCs Anuprita Johal and Navreet Kaur Sekhon, all SDMs-cum-EROs, Election Tehsildar, Supervisors and BLOs, the District Election Officer directed all officials not to treat this assignment as an additional duty, as the maintenance and updation of electoral rolls form part of the regular duties of government employees.
He stated that although the task is challenging, it is not impossible. Therefore, all efforts should be made to achieve 100 percent mapping by eliminating anomalies and increasing the pace of the mapping process.
Reviewing the progress constituency-wise, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal instructed officials to take the Election Commission’s work seriously and ensure that all prescribed formats are filled carefully, as any errors would be viewed seriously by senior authorities and the Election Commission.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that out of 1,520,190 voters in the district’s eight Assembly constituencies, the records of 1,268,487 voters have already been mapped with the electoral rolls of 2003, and the remaining work is being carried out on a priority basis.
Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal also appealed to all voters and political parties in the district that if the vote of any voter or any of their family members has not been matched with the 2003 electoral roll for any reason, they should visit the special camp being organized by the BLOs at their respective polling booths on June 7 (Sunday) and ensure verification and matching of their voter records.
