Patiala News:Red Cross’s tree planting effort commendable: Gill, Dhillon, Tiwana

Punjab Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Victims, Patiala, under the leadership of former IAS officer Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society State Branch Punjab and Chandigarh, organized a special sapling planting campaign to conserve the environment and promote greenery in collaboration with Civil Services Veteran Association, District Social Security Office Patiala, Youth Federation of India, Power House Youth Club.

Retired Director General of Police, Punjab Mr. Rajdeep Singh Gill and Retired Director General of Police Rajasthan Amarjot Singh Gill attended the event as the chief guests. The program was presided over by Honorable District and Sessions Judge Patiala Paramjit Singh and Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, State Branch Punjab and Chandigarh Shivdular Singh Dhillon. The program was inaugurated by Retired IG Paramjit Singh Grewal and District Social Security Officer, Patiala Varinder Singh Tiwana. All the guests were welcomed by Parminder Kaur Manchanda, Project Director of Punjab Red Cross Saket Hospital. On this occasion, S.S. Bhinder Retired Chief Engineer, State Awardee Parminder Bhalwan Member Drug Free India Campaign, Governor Awardee Jatwinder Grewal Member Drug Free India Campaign, Lieutenant Jagdeep Singh Joshi, Kosler Ranjit Kaur, Kosler Amarjit Kaur, Kosler Parminder Kaur Verma, Kosler Gurmeet Singh, Kosler Jaspreet Singh, Rudra Pratap Singh BCA student of Government Bikram College of Commerce participated.

Speaking on the occasion, former Director General of Police Punjab Rajdeep Singh Gill said that drug addiction is the biggest evil of the society and to eradicate it, not only the police or the law, but every section of the society will have to come forward. He said that this rehabilitation center run by the Red Cross is doing a commendable job of giving a new life to drug addicts. This initiative of planting saplings is not only beneficial for the environment but will also inspire the youth undergoing treatment here towards positive thinking.

Former Director General of Police Rajasthan Amarjot Singh Gill shared his views and said that just as we nurture a plant, we should also nurture our society. A youth trapped in drugs is also like a tender plant, which needs proper care and love.

Honorable District Sessions Judge Paramjit Singh said that it is a very good initiative to give the message of environmental protection along with drug de-addiction. He appealed to the youth living in the center to give up drugs and become strong like trees and useful for the society.

Secretary Indian Red Cross Society State Branch Punjab and Chandigarh Shivdular Singh Dhillon said that Indian Red Cross Society Punjab is carrying out many social welfare works along with drug de-addiction across the state.

District Social Security Officer Mr. Varinder Singh Tiwana gave information about the schemes being run by the Punjab Government for drug addiction. On this occasion, more than 100 fruit and shade trees were planted and a pledge was taken to take care of them.
