Patiala News:Health Minister Personally Reaches Kasiana Village on Public Tip, Nabs Drug Peddler

-No leniency for drug peddlers; Bhagwant Mann Government continues war against drugs on a war footing: Dr. Balbir Singh
Patiala, August 21: Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today personally reached Kasiana village in his Patiala Rural Assembly constituency based on information received from villagers and got an alleged drug peddler caught while supplying drugs and handed him over to the police.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that villagers had informed him that a person was allegedly supplying drugs in the village. Upon receiving the information, he immediately sent his security personnel to the village and also reached the spot himself. He directed the police to take strict action as per law and ensure that no person involved in drug trafficking was given any leniency.
The Health Minister said that under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, strict action is being taken against drug peddlers, while treatment and rehabilitation opportunities are also being provided to people suffering from drug addiction. He said that if a person addicted to drugs is willing to come forward with the truth and give up drugs, the government will extend every possible support for his treatment, skill development and rehabilitation through livelihood opportunities.
He said that the Punjab Government’s clear message is that drug peddlers will not be spared at any cost, while those suffering from drug addiction will be brought back into the mainstream through treatment, counselling and rehabilitation.
Dr. Balbir Singh appealed to the people to immediately share any information regarding drug trafficking or the supply of drugs with the police. Appreciating the villagers for providing the information, he said that the campaign to make Punjab drug-free can be further strengthened only with the active cooperation of the people. DSP Jangjit Singh Randhawa was also present on the occasion.
