Patiala News:PPCB’s Mission Clean Patiala Clears Over 12 Tonnes of Garbage in 17 Days with 1000+ Volunteers from 51 Organisations

Punjab Pollution Control Board’s (PPCB) flagship initiative, Mission Clean Patiala, has cleared over 12 metric tonnes of waste from city roads in just 17 days, with the participation of more than 1000 volunteers from 51 organisations.
The campaign gained further momentum today as Health & Family Welfare Minister, Punjab, Dr. Balbir Singh joined the cleanliness drive at Tripuri under the state-wide Mission Clean Punjab. He encouraged students and citizens to make cleanliness and environmental responsibility a part of their daily lives.
Appreciating the efforts of the PPCB and the Municipal Corporation, Patiala, the Health Minister lauded the initiative for engaging the community to improve the cleanliness of the city. He directed the Corporation to issue challans to violators, including street vendors, found littering public spaces.
Commending the students for their volunteer spirit, Dr. Balbir Singh urged them to maintain cleanliness not only in schools but also at homes and in their surroundings. He called upon them to minimise the use of plastic and adopt responsible consumption and environmentally conscious habits.
Launched by the PPCB in collaboration with the District Administration and the Municipal Corporation, Patiala, Mission Clean Patiala aims to transform cleanliness from an occasional activity into a sustained community practice. The campaign brings together government departments, educational institutions, NGOs and citizens to take collective responsibility for public spaces.
The campaign reflects the vision of PPCB Chairperson Ms. Reena Gupta to make environmental protection a people’s movement, where institutions and citizens do not merely expect clean surroundings but actively contribute towards creating and maintaining them.
“Mission Clean Patiala is about creating ownership of our public spaces. When a student picks up a piece of waste from a public road, it is more than a mere cleaning activity — it is a powerful lesson in citizenship and environmental responsibility. Our vision is to make cleanliness a shared habit across generations, with every institution, every community and every citizen seeing themselves as a partner in creating a cleaner Patiala,” said the Chairperson, PPCB.
The Chairperson added that the PPCB will continue to facilitate such community-led initiatives across Patiala to build sustained public participation in cleanliness and environmental protection.
