The fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’, being organized by the Punjab Government to connect the youth and children of the state with sports and to promote the sports talent of Punjab, was inaugurated in Patiala by Patiala MLA Mr. Ajitpal Singh Kohli. Patiala Mayor Mr. Kundan Gogia was also specially present on this occasion.
MLA Mr. Ajitpal Singh Kohli thanked the Punjab Government and Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann and said that the state government is giving special attention to promoting sports and players. He said that this is the first time that the government is organizing such a large-scale activities regarding sports and continuous efforts are being made to connect the youth from villages to cities with the playgrounds.
MLA Kohli said that the land of Punjab has given a large number of renowned sportsmen to the country and the world. There is already a lot of enthusiasm for sports among the youth of Punjab, the only need is to provide them with appropriate platform, facilities and opportunities. He said that big sports events like ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ are providing a great platform to the youth to showcase their talent.
He said that sports are not only important for physical fitness, but they also play an important role in building the personality of the youth. Sports are the most effective means of keeping children and youth away from drugs, bad habits and other social evils. A youth who is associated with the playground learns qualities like discipline, hard work, patience and team spirit.
Mr. Kohli said that in today’s time, it is the need of the hour to connect children and youth with healthy and positive activities. Sports motivate them to stay focused on their goals and move forward in life. He said that with such initiatives of the government, a new enthusiasm for sports is being created among the youth and in the coming time, even better players will emerge from Punjab.
Mayor Mr. Kundan Gogia said that Patiala has an old association with sports. Patiala has given many renowned players to the country and this city has always been a hub of sports activities. He said that it is a matter of pride for the city that the fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ is starting from Patiala.
He also encouraged the players and appreciated the efforts being made by the Punjab government to promote sports. He said that only the young generation associated with sports can form the foundation of a healthy and strong society.
On this occasion, District Sports Officer Navjot Dhaliwal, MC Harman Sandhu, Jasbir Singh Bittu, Johnny Kohli, Sagar Dhaliwal, Devinder Pal Singh Mickey, besides other dignitaries, social workers, sports enthusiasts and a large number of youth were also present.
