Punjab State Backward Classes Commission Chairman Malkit Thind today directed the Patiala government officials to implement the welfare schemes being run by the Central and Punjab governments at the ground level to uplift the social and economic status of citizens belonging to the Backward Classes (BC) category.
Chairman Malkit Thind was holding a detailed review meeting for the welfare of backward classes with seniors of various government departments including ADC (J) Anuprita Johal here at Circuit House. He directed that there should be no delay in issuing certificates of backward classes and information and rules regarding income and creamy layer should be given to the beneficiaries.
Chairman Malkit Thind said that the real purpose of government schemes is fulfilled only when their benefits reach every eligible person in a timely and transparent manner. He directed the officials not to indulge in any negligence in providing the benefits of schemes to the BC category people as per their rights and eligibility.
During the meeting, the Chairman got detailed information about the benefits provided under the schemes implemented by various departments for the backward classes so far and reviewed the progress based on the available data. Taking the shortcomings revealed in the implementation of the schemes seriously, he directed the concerned officers to remove them on priority basis.
Earlier, Chairman Malkit Thind also interacted directly with the people of backward classes and representatives of various social organizations. The Chairman listened carefully to their problems, complaints and suggestions. Many cases were resolved on the spot, while for the disposal of the remaining cases, instructions were given to the officers of the concerned departments to ensure action within the stipulated time frame.
Malkit Thind asked the officials to disseminate information about welfare schemes widely in villages and urban areas so that no eligible person from the backward class society is deprived of government benefits due to lack of information. He also stressed on simplifying the process of availing the benefits of the schemes and not making people visit offices unnecessarily.
Meanwhile, ADC (J) Anuprita Johal assured the Chairman that the district administration would ensure effective implementation of all welfare schemes as per the guidelines of the Commission.
The meeting was attended by District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Kulwinder Kaur, Tehsildar Harsimran Singh, District Social Security Officer Varinderjit Singh Tiwana, District Education Officer Shalu Mehra, along with officials from various departments, representatives of social organizations and a large number of representatives of the backward class society.
