Patiala News:Two-day inter-college basketball tournament concluded with pomp and show at MBS Punjab Sports University, Patiala

The two-day Inter-College Basketball Championship (Men and Women) organized by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University ( MBSPSU), Patiala concluded today with the best sportsmanship and excellent performances. 12 teams from various constituent and affiliated colleges of the university participated enthusiastically in this championship held from 17th to 18th September 2026.

Seeing the enthusiasm that had gathered among the players due to the lack of this competition last year , the university decided to hold the match this time. The tournament was held in a  league-cum-knockout ‘ format , with only one objective – to give every team a fair chance to compete and showcase their skills! In the women’s category, Prof. Gursewak Singh Government College of Physical Education ( PGSGCPE), Patiala won the overall championship by securing the first position. In the women’s category, the host institution, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University ( MBSPSU) , put up an impressive performance and secured the second (runner-up) position. Khalsa College of Physical Education ( KCPE), Amritsar secured the third position , while the Royal College of Physical Education ( RCPE), Mansa stood at the fourth position .

The men’s category also witnessed exciting competitions throughout the tournament. The main results included Mata Gurdev Kaur Memorial Shahi Sports College of Physical Education, Samrala. won the title of champion by securing first place , while the team of M.B.S. Punjab Sports University Second place was taken by Prof. Gursewak Singh Government College of Physical Education Patiala ( PGSGCPE ) Patiala secured the third position in the men’s category , followed by Government Arts and Sports College ( GASC), Jalandhar, securing the fourth position.

Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill congratulated the winning teams and appreciated all the players for their sportsmanship and dedication during the championship. He emphasized that such platforms are very important for identifying talented athletes to represent the university in high-level competitions. Sports Director Dr. Amarpreet Singh said that the league-cum-knockout format successfully fulfilled its objective of providing the teams with necessary match practice and competitive experience. The smooth conduct of this tournament was supervised by Sports Officer Dr. Sonia , in which all the teachers including Yoga Instructors Mr. Jagdev Singh , Mr. Parminder Singh and Mr. Manvir Singh made special contributions. The players, coaches and officials were very excited with this successful event of Punjab Sports University .
