Patiala News:Paddy Procurement to Begin from October 1: Deputy Commissioner

-108 mandis designated as procurement centres in Patiala district

Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that the government procurement of paddy in the district will commence from October 1. He said that the district administration is making adequate arrangements to ensure that farmers face no inconvenience while selling their produce, with 108 mandis designated as procurement centres for paddy.

The Deputy Commissioner said that, in accordance with the directions of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, all necessary arrangements will be ensured for smooth and transparent conduct of the paddy procurement process. He said that the district administration will continuously monitor the procurement process to facilitate farmers and ensure timely procurement of their produce.

Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal appealed to farmers to bring only dry paddy to the mandis so that its smooth and uninterrupted procurement can be ensured. He urged farmers to follow the prescribed norms regarding harvesting and bringing their produce to the mandis to avoid any disruption in the procurement process.

The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to all farmers not to burn paddy straw and other crop residue after harvesting. Instead, he urged them to adopt proper residue management practices and, wherever possible, incorporate the crop residue into the soil. He said that incorporating crop residue into the soil helps maintain soil fertility while also contributing to the prevention of air pollution and protection of the environment.

He urged farmers to extend their cooperation to the arrangements being made by the district administration for paddy procurement and paddy straw management.
