Patiala News:Instructions for strict monitoring of transportation, storage and use of methanol to prevent illicit liquor production and smuggling

Deputy Commissioner Patiala Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has ordered to closely monitor the movement, storage, transportation and use of methanol and ensure strict compliance with the Punjab Poisons Possession and Sale Rules, 2014, Poisons Act, 1919, to prevent unauthorized use of methanol.

The Deputy Commissioner has issued necessary orders to the SSP, all SDMs, Assistant Commissioner Excise, Civil Surgeon, Drug Inspectors, District Industries Centre and Deputy Director Factories to ensure compliance with the instructions issued by the Excise Commissioner, Punjab to prevent illicit liquor extraction, inter-state and inter-district smuggling and illegal use of methanol in Patiala district.

The Deputy Commissioner said that unauthorized use of methanol can pose a serious threat to the health and safety of the people. He said that it is imperative to effectively curb the activities of illegal extraction of liquor, especially from Lahan, as well as inter-state and inter-district smuggling of liquor. For this, strict monitoring and necessary action should be ensured to prevent the illegal use of methanol (methyl alcohol) for making illicit liquor.

Terming effective joint action against the extraction, smuggling of illicit liquor and illegal use of methanol as imperative, the Deputy Commissioner said that continuous coordination between the police, excise department and concerned departments is very important for protecting the health and safety of the people as well as for safeguarding government revenue.
