The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his repeated targeting of Punjab citing drug menace, calling him out for failing to curb the drug trade in BJP-ruled states. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal invoked the BJP’s own record in Punjab, stating that the BJP and the ‘Chitta Party’ [Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal)], had together allowed drugs to spread across the state between 2007 and 2017.
The AAP Chief further charged that drugs were now entering Punjab through Adani’s port in Gujarat, and challenged the BJP to abandon its ambition of reviving the drug trade in Punjab in alliance with the Akalis. Pointing to the drug problem in BJP-ruled states, Arvind Kejriwal asked whether the party had still not had its fill from selling drugs there.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal wrote ‘X’, addressing Union Home Minister Amit Shah, “You are the ones spreading drugs in Punjab through Adani’s port. You are the ones who protect those who spread gangsterism in Punjab in Sabarmati Jail. You are the ones who helped drugs spread across Punjab in collusion with the ‘Chitta Party’ between 2007 and 2017. And now, by joining hands with the same party again, you are dreaming of making billions by selling drugs in Punjab once more.”
Arvind Kejriwal stated, “The states with the highest levels of drug abuse today are those where your governments have been in power for years. Was selling drugs in those states not enough to satisfy you? Have you now returned to destroy Punjab once again by joining hands with your ‘Chitta Party’?”
“People know that your eyes are set on Punjab’s waters, Panjab University and Chandigarh. Do you want to bring back all 3 black farm laws? Punjab will never allow this to happen,” he asserted.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann wrote on X, “Amit Shah ji, you should have consulted your advisers before making statements about me. The Border Security Force’s (BSF) jurisdiction extends up to 50 kilometres from the border. 3,000 kilograms of ‘chitta’ has been seized at Gujarat’s Mundra Port. Before making allegations against me, take care of your own responsibilities. Stop simply copying and pasting tweets drafted by your sycophants.”
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia addressed Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating, “Do not defame Punjab. You are the Union Home Minister. Breaking the supply chain of drugs entering Punjab through Gujarat is the responsibility of the country’s Home Minister.”
He continued, “Today, when the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab has broken the chain of drug traffickers within the state, it is your responsibility as Union Home Minister to break the supply chain originating in Gujarat. The highest quantity of drugs in the country has been seized at Gujarat’s ports over the past 5 years, yet you have set out to defame Punjab for political gain.”
Manish Sisodia further stated, “Lawrence Bishnoi is running his entire network from Sabarmati Jail. Phone calls, video calls, threats and operations are all taking place from a high-security prison in your state. The question of where gangsterism is being protected should be directed not at Punjab, but at your government.”
He asserted, “Between 2007 and 2017, when the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP were in power, the trade in ‘chitta’ and heroin flourished in Punjab. The poison sown by your government during that period is what the entire state is being forced to deal with today. Having forgotten that history, are you now trying to defame Punjab?”
Manish Sisodia concluded by stating, “Border security, ports and central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) fall under the jurisdiction of your government. When drugs are entering the country through ports in Gujarat, who bears the responsibility?”
