-License of ‘Mittal Patisa House’ suspended
Food Safety Team, Patiala has intensified its checking and surveillance activities during the festive season. The aim is to ensure availability of safe and quality food items to the people and prevent sale of substandard, unsafe and adulterated food items. This was disclosed by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, District Health Officer, Food Safety Department, Patiala.
The District Health Officer said that during the checking drive conducted on October 21, the food safety team inspected various food business establishments in Balbera and surrounding areas of Patiala and took five samples of food items for laboratory testing from various vendors.
During the inspection of ‘Mittal Patisa House’ located in Tajpura, Patiala, the team found very dirty and unhygienic conditions where Patisa and Faini were being prepared. The team suspects that ‘maida’ was used as the main ingredient in the Patisa being sold as being made from ‘besan’. Apart from this, there is also a suspicion that ‘lemon-yellow’ colour was used in it to give the product a yellow colour. About 75 kg of ‘milk cake’ was also found at the spot. The food trader said that this milk cake was purchased from some other vendor, but at the time of inspection, he did not reveal the identity or address of the supplier.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur said that in view of the filth and unsanitary conditions found there, the license of ‘Mittal Patisa House’ has been suspended as per the legal process and the operation has been stopped till further orders. Sharing information about the action taken from September to October 21, 2026, she said that the Food Safety Department, Patiala has conducted extensive inspection, sampling and legal proceedings during September and October 2026. In the action taken during this period, a total of 96 food samples were collected, about 18 quintals of cheese were seized, about 1,800 liters of milk were seized, 21 different products of health supplements were seized, against which action was taken and 2 licenses of food traders were suspended and 2 challans were issued.
He further informed that apart from this, the department is committed to safeguarding public health by conducting regular inspections, taking food samples and taking appropriate action against those violating the ‘Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006’ and the rules made thereunder.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur said that the Food Safety Department appeals to all food business operators to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation, use approved ingredients and food colours, keep records of the source of food products and comply with all applicable food safety requirements. The District Health Officer has also advised consumers to remain vigilant and inform the department about any suspected cases of violation of food safety rules.
