Bhagwant Mann Govt Closed Toll Plazas & Transformed Govt Schools; Congress Wants to Take Away Relief Provided to People: Baltej Pannu.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress MP and former Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring over his statement that a Congress government would discontinue free electricity and other public welfare facilities, restricting benefits to those it considers needy. Baltej Pannu said the statement exposed Congress’s anti-people agenda and its intention to burden ordinary Punjabis financially by taking away facilities that have brought relief to millions of families.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said, “Congress ruled the country for decades, yet ordinary people continued to struggle for basic facilities. Even today, its intention is to burden the people of Punjab financially and deprive them of the benefits they receive under the Aam Aadmi Party government. Raja Warring’s statement has exposed the mindset of a party that wants ordinary families to remain financially constrained rather than progress.”

AAP Punjab Media In-charge stated, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government fulfilled its biggest guarantee soon after coming to power in 2022. Today, more than 90% of households in Punjab receive zero electricity bills. Congress cannot digest the fact that ordinary families are saving money and improving their lives. Its feudal mindset wants a person who owns a bicycle to remain unable to afford a two-wheeler or a car.”

He further added, “Raja Warring’s statement reflects the direction in which Congress wants to take Punjab. If Congress comes to power, even by mistake, the people will pay the price. The 300 units of free electricity per month, Mohalla Clinics providing healthcare without discrimination, and cashless treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh per family under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna will all face the threat of being discontinued.”

“Congress leaders are troubled by the monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 and ₹1,500 being provided to women under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna. This assistance strengthens women financially and provides relief to families. Congress wants to take away these benefits instead of ensuring that more women receive support,” he added.

Baltej Pannu asserted, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government has expanded the reach of canal irrigation from 21% to 88% of agricultural land. Earlier, canal water in parts of Malwa largely benefited the fields of big and influential farmers, while smaller farmers struggled to secure access. A Congress government would put these gains at risk and could once again deprive small farmers of reliable canal water.”

“Our government has not limited itself to fulfilling election guarantees. We have taken decisions that directly benefit the people of Punjab. Eighteen toll plazas have been closed, saving commuters ₹64 lakh every day. Previous governments repeatedly extended toll operators’ contracts, including extensions of up to 400 days, placing an additional burden on the public. The AAP government has put people’s interests first,” said Baltej Pannu.

The AAP Punjab Media In-charge noted, “The Sadak Surakhya Force is another important initiative undertaken by our government. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari himself praised the force in Parliament and highlighted a reduction of more than 50% in deaths at accident sites in Punjab. This demonstrates how practical interventions can strengthen emergency response and save lives.”

“We have transformed government schools, strengthened educational facilities and sent teachers abroad for professional training. Children from poor and ordinary families are now clearing difficult competitive examinations such as NEET. Congress wants to halt these reforms and decide who gets access to quality education. Our government believes that every child deserves an opportunity to succeed, irrespective of their family’s financial position,” said Baltej Pannu.

He pointed out, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has repeatedly warned the people of Punjab that traditional political parties would first target the facilities provided to ordinary families if they returned to power. Raja Warring has now placed that agenda before the public himself. The people of Punjab understand the difference between a government that provides relief and parties that want to take it away. Punjabis will not allow Congress to reverse the progress made in electricity, healthcare, women’s welfare, irrigation and education.”
