For thousands of economically weaker families, the marriage of a daughter is a cherished dream that requires emotional as well as financial support. Standing firmly with such families, the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is ensuring that financial constraints do not become a barrier in fulfilling this dream through the Ashirwad Scheme.

Punjab Cabinet Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that during the current financial year 2026-27, financial assistance amounting to ₹65.20 crore has been released to 12,784 beneficiaries under the Ashirwad Scheme. She said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to providing dignity, support and equal opportunities to daughters belonging to disadvantaged sections of society.

Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the scheme, ₹51,000 financial assistance is provided to every eligible beneficiary for the marriage of a daughter. She added that up to two daughters from the same family are eligible for the benefit, enabling more needy families to receive timely assistance.

Sharing the category-wise details, the Cabinet Minister said that out of the total assistance released during the current financial year, 8,774 beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Caste category have received ₹44.75 crore, while 4,010 beneficiaries from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Backward Classes have been provided ₹20.45 crore.

She further informed that cases of 9,183 additional Scheduled Caste beneficiaries and 4,342 beneficiaries belonging to Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections are under process for release of financial assistance.

Emphasising transparency in implementation, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the assistance under the Ashirwad Scheme is transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring a transparent, efficient and timely delivery mechanism.

The Cabinet Minister directed all district and departmental officials to make concerted efforts to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of the benefits of the Ashirwad Scheme. She instructed officers to ensure prompt verification and disposal of applications so that eligible families receive financial assistance without any delay during this important occasion of their daughters’ marriages.

Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is continuously working for the welfare of every section of society and implementing people-centric schemes with the aim of creating a more inclusive and equitable Punjab. She added that these initiatives are a step towards realising the vision of a ‘Rangla Punjab’ where every family receives respect, support and opportunities for a better future.
