Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal hit out at the BJP-Akali nexus over political opportunism, questioning how Union Home Minister Amit Shah could claim to rid Punjab of drugs while joining hands with Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Taking a sharp swipe at the proposed alliance, the AAP Chief said that Amit Shah eliminating drugs in Punjab by joining hands with Majithia would be the “eighth wonder of the world.”

Taking to X, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal stated: “Majithia and Amit Shah are extremely close, just like brothers. Now, by forming an alliance with Majithia, Amit Shah ji will rid Punjab of drugs. This would be the eighth wonder of the world. ‘Waah, Modi ji, Waah. What a master plan.”

AAP Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia stated, “Amit Shah’s plan to ‘control’ drugs in Punjab. He will do it by joining hands with Majithia. Not eliminate drugs, just ‘control’ them.”

Addressing questions from the media about the growing proximity between the Akali Dal and BJP, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora said, “Until a few months ago, both parties were saying that they would contest all 117 seats independently. However, after going to the ground and assessing the public mood, they realised that the people of Punjab were not willing to accept them. That is why their statements have now changed and they are talking about contesting the elections together.”

He added that the outcome would remain the same regardless of whether the two parties contested together or separately, as the people of Punjab had not forgotten their record between 2007 and 2017. “The people of Punjab have seen what the Akali Dal and BJP did during their ten years in power. They have also seen how the Congress government betrayed the people during its five years in office. No matter how many rallies they organise or roadshows they hold, these parties will not succeed merely through political activity. People want results and good governance,” he said.

Aman Arora said that the Bhagwant Mann government has delivered work in four-and-a-half years that had not been accomplished in decades, adding that the people would compare governments on the basis of public welfare and development. “People are concerned about the work done for their welfare. When they compare the performance of governments on public welfare, I believe nobody can match the work done by the AAP government. The results of the 2027 Assembly elections will reflect this, and the AAP government will return to power with a strong mandate,” he said.

Responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion that the NDA would form the next government in Punjab, the AAP Punjab President said, “Leaders make such statements to motivate their workers and strengthen their cadres. However, it is not the case that every state where they have made such claims has seen them win. The real test is the work done for the people. When the comparison is about public welfare, I believe nobody can match the AAP government’s record,” Aman Arora said.

AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu stated, “From 2007 to 2017, during the Akali-BJP rule, the scourge of ‘chitta’ first emerged in Punjab and, before anyone could realise the scale of the crisis, it had swallowed an entire generation of Punjabis. The Mann government wants to rid Punjab of this drug menace. But Amit Shah, by once again forging an alliance with the ‘chitta party’ and Majithia, wants to push Punjab back into the abyss.”

AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that the Akali Dal and BJP had maintained political proximity despite periods of formal separation, and that their decisions were guided by electoral calculations. “They remain connected politically and come together whenever they believe it will benefit them. When they feel that staying apart will serve their interests, they separate. Their political positions change according to their calculations,” he said.

Citing the three farm laws introduced by the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson said the Akali Dal had distanced itself from the BJP when it felt that its association with the party could lead to public opposition in Punjab.

He said the latest developments once again demonstrated the political convenience behind the relationship between the two parties. “Whether they contest together or separately makes no difference to us. Neither the Akali Dal nor the BJP has the political standing in Punjab to form the next government. They can make whatever claims they want, but the government will once again be formed by the Aam Aadmi Party, and CM Bhagwant Singh Mann will become Chief Minister again,” he said.
