Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), holding their 2007-2017 rule responsible for pushing Punjab into the grip of drugs and warning people against allowing the two parties to return to power. Welcoming the filing of a 40,000-page chargesheet by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and two other accused, the AAP Punjab President said the investigation had brought to light a financial network involving 10 companies and transactions worth ₹736.96 crore. He credited CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government with pursuing the investigation against powerful figures and taking the fight against drugs and corruption to the courts.
Addressing a press conference, AAP Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said, “It is ironic that Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are speaking about drugs today. During their ten years in power, from 2007 to 2017, chitta spread across Punjab, countless families suffered, and thousands of mothers lost their sons to addiction. The people of Punjab have not forgotten those dark years, and they must not fall for the renewed political ambitions of the same parties.”
Taking aim at Bikram Singh Majithia, Aman Arora said, “A leader who now mocks others and makes aggressive public statements has brought disgrace to Punjab. The 40,000-page chargesheet filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, detailing transactions involving 10 companies and ₹736.96 crore, is a significant step towards bringing the financial network under investigation before the court. The people deserve answers about how such wealth was accumulated and where the money came from.”
Referring to Bikram Singh Majithia’s reported links to drug traffickers Satpreet Singh alias ‘Satta’ and Parminder Singh alias ‘Pindi’, Aman Arora said, “The names of Satpreet Singh alias ‘Satta’ and Parminder Singh alias ‘Pindi’ and their links have long figured in public discussion surrounding the drug case. Jagdish Bhola had also named influential people in connection with the case. The investigation must establish the facts, and everyone found responsible must face the law, regardless of political influence or position.”
Congratulating CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, Aman Arora said, “I congratulate CM Bhagwant Singh Mann for ensuring that the investigation has reached the court and that powerful people are being made to answer for their actions. Unlike previous governments, which failed to bring influential figures to account, the Mann government is pursuing the fight against drugs and corruption. No one should receive political protection, and no one should be above the law.”
Recalling the Congress government’s promise to eliminate drugs, Aman Arora said, “Captain Amarinder Singh took an oath on Gutka Sahib in 2017, promising to eradicate drugs from Punjab, but the Congress government failed to fulfil that promise. Congress leaders themselves described the relationship between Captain Amarinder Singh and Bikram Singh Majithia as ‘chacha-bhatija’. The people of Punjab must ask why the drug menace continued despite such solemn promises and why the previous rulers failed to deliver on their commitments.”
Aman Arora said the people of Punjab had already experienced the consequences of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party rule and should not repeat that mistake. “The same parties that presided over ten years of governance are once again seeking power. Punjab cannot afford to return to a period in which drugs devastated families and the state’s youth paid the price. The people must judge these parties by their record, not by their election-time statements.”
Questioning the drug supply chain, Aman Arora said, “The Bhagwant Mann government has strengthened border surveillance, deployed drones and increased patrolling to curb cross-border smuggling. We are taking concrete steps to stop drugs from entering Punjab. But the larger question remains: where are the consignments coming from, and who is operating the supply networks?”
Referring to major heroin seizures, including consignments of around 3,000 kg at Gujarat ports, Aman Arora said, “Such massive heroin seizures raise serious questions about the routes through which drugs are being transported and the networks facilitating their movement. The entire chain, from production and wholesale distribution to retail supply, must be investigated. Those responsible for destroying the lives of Punjab’s youth must be brought to justice.”
Aman Arora further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiromani Akali Dal of seeking to dislodge the Aam Aadmi Party government and restore the political and financial networks that, he said, had flourished under previous regimes. “Their political ambitions cannot be separated from their record in government. Punjab must remain vigilant against any attempt to bring back the conditions that devastated its youth and families.”
Appealing to Punjabis to reject the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance, Aman Arora said, “Every vote matters when Punjab’s future is at stake. A vote for the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance would strengthen forces that the people have already seen in power. Our youth, our families and our state cannot afford another return to those dark days.”
Concluding his attack, Aman Arora said, “For nearly five years, the Mann government has worked to protect Punjab’s youth, fight the drug menace and build a Rangla Punjab. This fight requires political will, honest intentions and sustained action against those who profit at the expense of our young generation. Punjab must move forward, not return to the dark past from which it is still working to recover.”
