Super SMS, mulcher and reversible solution are managing stubble properly

Initiative of progressive farmer of Nabha block is an example for sustainable agriculture
Manjit Singh, son of Jarnail Singh, a progressive farmer from village Khokh under Nabha block of Patiala district, has been cultivating his 33 acres of land without burning paddy stubble for the last 15 years. This initiative taken by him to conserve the environment and make agriculture sustainable is a source of inspiration for other farmers.
Farmer Manjit Singh uses modern farming techniques for proper management of crop residues. During paddy harvesting, the stubble is spread evenly in the field with the help of a combine equipped with Super SMS. After this, the stubble is cut into small pieces using a mulcher and spread on the ground. By pressing and mixing the stubble into the soil through a reversible plough (MB plough), it helps in increasing organic matter and organic carbon in the soil.
Manjit Singh also gives importance to crop diversification and crop rotation. He sows potatoes after paddy, while also cultivating wheat for domestic use in a proper manner. Cultivation of different crops and proper management of residues can help in better utilization of agricultural resources and maintaining the health of the soil.
By not burning stubble for the last 15 years, they have set an example of using crop residues in agriculture. Apart from avoiding the smoke and air pollution caused by stubble burning, managing residues in the fields also helps in conserving beneficial soil organisms and nutrients. This increases the chances of improving soil health and making agriculture profitable in the long run.
This initiative by farmer Manjit Singh shows that stubble can be managed properly by adopting modern agricultural machinery and scientific methods. Progressive farmers like him are playing a vital role in preserving the environment as well as promoting sustainable practices in the agricultural sector.
Instead of burning the stubble, managing it in the fields is the need of the hour. Adoption of such environmentally friendly methods by farmers can make a significant contribution in reducing air pollution, improving soil health and conserving natural resources for future generations.
