Desh Bhagat University Observes World Leprosy Day with Outreach and Awareness Initiatives

Mandi Gobindgarh, February 2: Desh Bhagat University marked World Leprosy Day with a strong message of awareness, compassion, and social responsibility through combined initiatives led by the School of Nursing and the Faculty of Pharmacy.
While the School of Nursing conducted meaningful outreach activities at Kusht Ashram, Khanna and Fatehgarh Sahib to promote empathy, inclusive healthcare and stigma reduction, the Faculty of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a one-day awareness programme focusing on education and student engagement.
Together, both events emphasized early diagnosis, proper treatment, and community acceptance, reinforcing the university’s commitment to health education and social awareness.
The School of Nursing’s programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Prabhjot Singh, Deputy Director, and Prof. (Dr.) Lovesampuranjot Kaur, Principal, School of Nursing and was meticulously coordinated by Ms. Bhupinder Kaur and Ms. Poonam, Nursing Tutors. Faculty members and nursing students actively participated in health education sessions, interaction with residents, distribution of essential items, and motivational support, educating beneficiaries on hygiene, disease prevention, and regular treatment. The School expressed sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur for their constant encouragement and visionary support.
Simultaneously, the Faculty of Pharmacy’s awareness programme educated students and faculty on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of leprosy through academic activities such as speech and essay writing competitions.
Overall, the combined initiatives successfully enhanced public health awareness and fostered a more informed, sensitive, and inclusive academic and social environment.
